Bio

The Hoemmen family comes from Werlte (political region or Samtgemeinde Werlte), Emsland, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), Germany, once called "Hanover/Hannover" (kingdom or province). The area is also geologically known as "The Huemmling", for its strange glacial moraine and dolmen megaliths. The Hoemmen family has lived from ~ 900 -- 1969 on the same farmland (Hof) in Werlte, Germany. Many Hoemmens from Emsland (and Werlte) moved to Calhoun County in the 1840s and 1850s. In the 1950s, several Hoemmen siblings also came to central Illinois, unaware of relatives whose footsteps they had followed.
