The Hoemmen family comes from Werlte (political region or Samtgemeinde Werlte), Emsland, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), Germany, once called "Hanover/Hannover" (kingdom or province). The area is also geologically known as "The Huemmling", for its strange glacial moraine and dolmen megaliths. The Hoemmen family has lived from ~ 900 -- 1969 on the same farmland (Hof) in Werlte, Germany. Many Hoemmens from Emsland (and Werlte) moved to Calhoun County in the 1840s and 1850s.
