If you are sending in a correction or additional information for patients buried in the Fergus Falls State Hospital Cemetery, please be sure to let me know via email (listed at the bottom of this profile) the source of your information including your relationship. I do welcome corrections when documented and will gladly transfer any memorial to any family member, no matter how distant. However, I will not make most corrections without the source.

The Minnesota History Center in St. Paul has many files from the Fergus Falls State Hospital if you need to do further research.

One caveat on the information in the memorials...the birth years are usually approximate. When they were committed to the hospital, birthdays were not recorded. The information available usually gives an age or approximate age.

There also needs to be an explanation regarding the "Cemetery 1, 2 or 3" designations. It is all one large parcel of land. Patients were buried pretty much in chronological order as they died. There were sometimes exhumations and the open graves were reused.

The first burial in Cemetery 1 was in 1890 at the North East edge and the last in June of 1907. They then began "Cemetery 2" to the West, again at the North end and proceeded until that was full in 1949 and then started "Cemetery 3" West of "Cemetery 2". The last burial was in 1968. There are 3196 patients buried in the three cemeteries which constitute the Fergus Fall State Hospital Cemetery.
