Bio

My wife Mary Gordon is the master genealogist of our family, and has made many contributions to Find-A-Grave over the years.

MY primary focus here is attempting to locate the descendants of the particular US Army Air Force bomber crew who flew with a great-uncle in WWII. T/Sgt Thomas L. White was a Radio Operator & Waist Gunner with the Fifteenth Air Force's 485th Bomb Group (829 Squadron), based in Venosa Italy. Sadly, he and seven others of their 10-man crew were killed on September 24, 1944, when their B-24 Liberator was shot down by flak over occupied Greece.

I'll list the names of Tom's crewmates here, in case anyone with a connection to any of these men comes across this profile as part of their own research. (And if you do, please contact me!)

Tom's regular crewmates were:
- 1st Lt Robert E. Hegmann (Pilot)
- 1st Lt Bryson R. Watts (co-Pilot)
- 1st Lt Joe B. Hackler (Bombardier) *
- Lt Edgar Christian (Navigator) **
- T/Sgt Walter K. Stone (Engineer/WaistGunner)
- S/Sgt Edward A. Oliveira (NoseGunner) **
- S/Sgt Joseph M. Cullen (TopTurretGunner)
- S/Sgt Cecil W. Smith (BallTurretGunner)
- S/Sgt Dale E. Morrison (TailGunner) *

** in place of Christian & Oliveira for the Sept. 24 mission (normally serving with other crews)
were:
- 1st Lt Marvin R. Weiner (Navigator), and
- 2nd Lt Everett Latham (2nd Navigator + NoseGunner)

* Hackler & Morrison were the only two crew members who survived that mission.

As mentioned above, if you have any connection to any of these eleven men or their families, I'd be very anxious to hear from you.

Thanks.
