Bio

Barry S. Simich is a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Indiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, Clarence Cook Chapter. He is a charter member of the Saline County (Illinois) Genealogical Society. Barry has spent most of his life discovering his family roots. From his mother's side of the family, he is a 7th cousin to President James Monroe and a 5th great grandson of Private Paul Abney (1745-1815) of the 14th Virginia Regiment. From his father's branch of the family, Barry is the son and grandson of Macedonian immigrants who became naturalized citizens of the United States, with his father serving in the US Navy during World War II. He has a Bachelor Degree in History and a Master's Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University and lives in Indianapolis (Carmel) Indiana with his wife, and daughter. He is an avid student of history, particularly American history, and specifically American Presidential History. Barry serves, along with his sister, Suzanne Scott, on the board of the Baker Cemetery Association. He is a retired corporate executive and currently serves as an Executive Career Mentor in the Lacy School of Business at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is a commissioner on the Carmel Historic Preservation Commission.

Barry's guiding principle for genealogy is best expressed by the words on the Find A Grave Site of Rhonda Patton:

" We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors, to put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell their story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead, it is about breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe."
