In August of 2014, I realized I had a love for family history research and old photographs. While I am still a newbie, I have learned a lot about genealogy in a short time. Most of my research is on the families in Rocky Ridge (Birmingham), Alabama. My paternal grandfather's family was very prominent in this rural area, and my grandfather was an early elder in Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Most of the people born in Rocky Ridge between 1850 and 1950 are related in some way -- even if distant.

I realize that there are two important components to this website. First, this is a place for the living to honor their deceased relatives and friends. Second, this is an important resource for researchers and genealogists. I am not an obituary hunter, but I think the folks who scour obituaries every day and post as many as they can are an integral part of this site. If they didn't exist, many burials would go unreported here. I do, however, find it sad that so many members hoard memorials -- most of which have no connection whatsoever to the original contributor. I don't care what the rules say; if one of your memorials is for a person who is otherwise unknown to you, why in the world would you not want to transfer it to someone who is interested in maintaining that profile with the most current information?
