Bio

I was born in Akron, Ohio. My father was born in Jackson County, Tennessee and my mother was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I became interested in genealogy in 1988 when I inherited an old manuscript "The Keith Genealogy" by J Montgomery Seaver. It was that year I started visiting cemeteries, reviewing census records and filling out my first family group sheets. I submitted a portion of my research to The Keith Genealogy Book Project. In 1998 I started converting my research to digital. I started moving my research onto the internet in 2014.

My father’s people were Scotch-Irish farmers that migrated from Virginia, North and South Carolina and settled in Tennessee two centuries ago. My 6th great grandfather was a Revolutionary War Soldier. Three 4th great grandfathers served in the Tennessee Militia in the war of 1812. It was land grants and opening of Indian lands that enabled my ancestors to settle into the Upper Cumberland Counties of Tennessee. I used to visit Jackson County once a year when I was young. Every visit was special and I’ll always cherish memories of loving grandparents, friendly people, the farm, grandpa’s store, granny’s fried chicken, June Bugs, arrow heads, fossils, creek beds, caves and the beautiful hills.

My mother’s people were city folk. Her father’s paternal grandparents were from England. His maternal grandfather served in the 155th PA Infantry and fought at Gettysburg. I was too young to know my grandfather, but was very fond of my grandmother and enjoyed her stories of Pittsburgh, the West End and Mount Washington. My grandmother’s people were Irish. Her paternal grandfather emigrated Ireland, enlisted in the Regular Army Company F 18th Regiment U.S. Infantry. During the civil war he was wounded and missing in action, and later captured and held at Andersonville Prison and survived. After the war he lived in New Brighton, PA and worked for the railroad. My grandmother’s maternal grandparents emigrated Ireland and her grandfather was a puddler in the steel mill in Wheeling WV.
