My wife Doris and her sister Joan both are descendants of Mary Irwin Young! The sisters are very interesting in their ancestry and part of that interest got us all to Athens Ill, and the Irwin Cemetery! Back in 2012 when we got there, the cemetery was overgrown with poison oak, lilies and fallen trees. We spent a year cleaning up the mess which was a challenge as we live in Lake of the Ozarks and Joan and her family live in Northern Ohio. It took a lot of visits, and we were able to find two wonderful people, husband and wife who continued the cleaning efforts and continue cutting grass bringing flowers, and just being great people to keep the Cemetery respectable and looking as good as it can! Many Grave stones, the smaller ones are either gone or moved. Just as an FYI. with our continued research on this cemetery, there are actually 67 interments in this Cemetery, many with no markings! The Irwin family I married into, has set up a bank account that many have paid into and the plan is to assure every grave has a marker of Granite stone. We have been working with a grave marker company in Missouri who will actually make the grave markers. Also, we are still researching through St. Clair County all interments in the Irwin cometary! We do not wish to miss anyone if possible. If U are an Irwin part of this family and want to be part of what we are doing or add Ancestry information please contact us.
