Bio

My name is Raylene Caires Rebai, a FindaGrave.com volunteer for the past year and a half; contributor ID #48593002.

I am the second daughter of Ray Caires and Gladys Freitas. Paternal grandparents: Manuel deFreitas Caires, Jr and Julia Pacheco. Maternal grandparents: Louis Freitas and Jane deRego. Great grandparents, paternal and maternal, emigrated from Madeira Portugal to the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) during the period of 1880-1886. The Portuguese arrived as indentured workers for the various sugar plantations on the islands of Hawaii and Maui. I have had a passion for researching and preserving my families genealogy for as long as I can remember. I love to listen as my dad recounts the days of his youth, sharing family stories and why he decided to move his bride, of two years and one year old daughter from Maui to CA in 1957. I began my official research in 1995, and spend a little time, each day, on my research. I respect all families personal journey's and enjoy helping others preserve their families history as well. The lives and stories of our ancestors shape who we are as individuals and instilled the traditions we follow as families today.
