My family and I live in Rockford, IL. Genealogy has become an avid interest for me in the last few years. I have discovered VERY interesting details in my family tree!
Each branch has something that is interesting about it. My father's side is my southern branch. I have many Revolutionary and Civil War veterans on that side. The most recent generations ended up settling in Arkansas, in and near Lawrence County.
My mother's side is my northern branch. One branch emigrated from Norway. My Norwegian Immigrant ancestor walked from Chicago to St. Louis according to his obituary. Apparently that wasn't that uncommon in those days but I can't imagine walking that far!!! Most of them settled in WI. Another branch were lead miners from Allendale,Northumberland, England. They left there because they were blacklisted when they went on strike. They emigrated to and area near Galena, IL in the mid 1800's to lead mine there and ended up helping settle a new lead mining area in WI called New Diggings.
I can't wait to learn more!
