Hello everyone.

I am doing research for a book honoring the World War Two servicemen and women from Clay County, West Virginia. That research led me to this website.

The scope of the project is to list pertinent military information so those interested will have a base for further research. Sadly the memories of those who have fallen are quickly fading if not completely gone so I am giving a little more detail to those KIA, MIA, and those who otherwise died while serving during WWII.

Personally my family has two listed as Missing in Action: Tec 5 Leon S. Paxton, 1st Ranger Battalion, MIA at Cisterna, Italy, January 1944 then declared dead by FOD in April 1945; and Sgt James Harold Hamrick, 858th Bombardment Squadron, 492nd Bombardment Group (The Carpetbaggers) shot down near Oslo over the North Sea, 1945. Oddly the day Leon was declared dead was the day Harold was shot down.

My hat is off to anyone doing research. It is laborious, but plenty worth it.
