Bio

Paschal Jones born Elkton, Rockingham Co VA is my 4th Great Grandfather. It is his son John J Jones, also born Elkton, 1837. The 1860 census lists John J as "AGENT FOR P HAYES" in Troy, Gilmer Co, still Virginia. Perrigrine Hayes ended up being a Major in the Confederate army and John J was also Confederate and was captured in 1864, held until December 1864 he was transferred to Camp Chase. I believe he suffered from what we now know is PTSD. He was still with his family in Troy in the 1870 census but he left them and ended up with 4 more wives. At the time of his death "near Burnsville" WV he had photos of all five of his wives on his mantle! A real character. According to our last living witness, John J's father, John Elliott told his grandson that John J served also in the Spanish American War with Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders. He was not one of THE Rough Riders but I did find a John J that served on San Juan Hill with an Infantry out of Indiana. I still do not know his middle name or where he is buried. My Grandmother/John J's granddaughter was ashamed of him I believe and never spoke of them. Thanks to find a Grave I found my GGG Grandmother's grave in Auburn WV. Only 30 miles from my Grandmother's home yet she never took us there! Elizabeth S Westfall, first wife of John J Jones and mother of John Elliott Jones born 1860 and mother of several others. I did get to meet the granddaughter of Adam Simpson Jones, Elizabeth and John's last child! 90 years old in Glenville WV. Today I received msg from Jane Rousseau, if you see this I cannot find your msg. Any help appreciated! 304-300-1525 Weston West Virginia.
