PHOTO REQUESTS RANT: There are many unmarked gravesites in the older Calgary cemeteries, including Burnsland, St. Mary's, St. Mary's Pioneer, Union and Queen's Park cemeteries.

####> To whomever removes photo requests made for burials at the Calgary cemeteries, just because there is no headstone marker, please know that a photo of the gravesite can mean the world to a relative. Some of us do photograph those graves with no markers. Removing the request without providing a photograph takes the opportunity of seeing a loved one's burial place away from the individual making the request. <####

The burial date is often available from cemetery records and can be added to the memorial. This date makes it easier for others to do additional research for information.

We should be taking these photographs as a service to those making the requests, not as a means to run up our own numbers. Refer to Find A Grave help for suggestions on how you might photograph a gravesite that does not have a marker.
END OF RANT - thanks for reading it

I have been researching my family for many years and find information from cemeteries to be very helpful in finding new leads and confirming others.

When making requests for photographs, please include as much information as possible for the location of the grave. In Calgary, Alberta contact [email protected] for information about the city cemeteries or to request location information. Also check out http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Pages/Cemeteries/home.aspx for downloadable maps and more.

Please feel free to use any pictures I have posted to this site in your own personal family history. All I ask is that you give credit to the photographer and you should always cite the source of the photograph. Citing all of your sources is a basic principle of good genealogy.

I try to add pictures of at least the quality I would want for my family memorials. If any of the pictures I post are not of sufficient quality, please let me know and I will work to provide a better picture where it is practical to do so.
