I became interest in genealogy at age 15 when I attended a class on family history research at a church retreat. It really sparked my interest as 1. divorce in my family goes clear back to the early 1900's [parents, grandparents and great-grandparents] and 2. being a military brat, I felt that I had no "roots" and finding them became very important to me.
For 20 years researching in those days meant a lot of letter writing, sending off for vital records, interviewing family members and then branching off to visiting LDS family history branches and lucky me- National Archives branch in nearby Seattle, WA. Working at different local LDS Family history centers and eventually serving as family history missionary for a year and attending local genealogical societies' seminars have been a great boon to my personal research.
The next 20 years, my research was very sporadic with full-time employment. Now with a change in my employment status I feel a need to get my research organized, and give back to the genealogical community. Pay-it-forward for others who desire help with their family trees.
