Bio

I am interested in the lives of those who lived and worked at the San Luis Obispo light station; a particular research interest is Henry Wilson Young, first head Keeper of this light station, from 1890 to 1905. Young also served as keeper at Point Reyes (1886), Yerba Buena (1886-1887), Farallon Islands (1887-1890) and Alcatraz Island (1905 - 1909). Before entering into lighthouse service, he worked at the Mare Island Navy Yard and served, I believe, in the U.S. Navy. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1854.

I am also interested in learning more about other keepers who worked at the San Luis Obispo light station during the years (1890 - 1939) before the Coast Guard took over the administration of the nation's lighthouses, including head Keepers William J. Smith, George Watters, Fred Saunders, and John Robert Moorefield.
