Bio

I've dabbled in genealogy several times during my life. As a retiree, I'm "back" to it. I am a member of the Brevard County [FL] Genealogical Society and United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance worker.

Best Genealogy Story: Back in 1983 I took a two week vacation to Western Europe -- mostly to my heritage nations of Germany and Belgium. While in Belgium, I stopped at the town hall in Vrasene to see if I could learn about the great-grandparents I never knew. The man there didn't seem at first to think I was more than a helpless/hapless fool. Then I pulled out a copy of the birth record my grandmother had gotten when she applied for Social Security. The man's face lit up when he realized I actually was a descendant of the town and he became VERY helpful.

Best Genealogy Success: While researching my wife's heritage, I found someone else researching the same line. She had LOTS of sources and I was impressed by her documentation so I dropped her an email. She is a very skilled genealogist had traced her (hence my wife's) lineage and the way back to Charlemagne the Great! She also shared her results fully, so now my wife (but not me) can do so too.

Current Status: Retired in 2015 after working on/near US Air Forces bases for 44 years. Twenty were on active duty; twenty-four were as a contractor. During ten of those years I taught college level political science part-time. What a great subject to teach -- even without the current Clinton v Trump race, the subject (as least in my hands) was never boring!
