Photo of Elmwood Cemetery
The Augusta Library has a 10-yr-old cemetery burial list for the "Augusta Cemetery", as well as a list for another one called the "Elmwood Cemetery". Their map shows that the two cemeteries are close to one another in the town of Augusta. But where the Augusta Cemetery should be there is this sign, pictured above, that reads, "Elmwood Cemetery". This sign & cemetery entrance is along the 500 block of (E/W) 12th Avenue in Augusta. The entrance to the 'other' "Elmwood Cemetery" is in the 1000 block of (N/S) Ohio St., about a 1/4 mile away. The other one has two brick signs, one at it's one-way entrance and the other at it's one-way exit. The back part of each cemetery comes within a few dozen feet of the another. So from what I can tell, the cemetery pictured above used to be called the "Augusta Cemetery" and at some point in the past it's name was changed to Elmwood when it came under the charge of the same entity that cares for the other "Elmwood Cemetery" (but I have no documents to back it up). Thank you.
