Philip Loren VanHook of Bloomington, Indiana passed away from this life on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. He was born on December 31, 1936 and was the son of the late Clell and Olive (Young) VanHook.

Philip attended Bloomington High School graduating from Ellettsville High School in 1954.

Philip joined the Navy for two years and enlisted in the Air Force for two years. He retired from Otis Elevator in 1987 after 30 years of service. He also enjoyed repairing and working on clocks and had an interest in car racing where he won several trophies.

He married Barbara Ruble on June 30, 1975. They enjoyed traveling out west for the past 37 years. Philip loved the mountains of Colorado, climbing and cycling the trails.

He and Barbara lived in Lake Wales, FL during the winter months for the past 17 years.

Philip is survived by his loving wife Barbara, daughter; Phyllis(Chris)Henry of Bloomington, granddaughter; Laura McCammon of Bloomington and one great-granddaughter; Jillian Dantzler of Bloomington.

He is also survived by two step-sisters; Gladys(Bill)Plew of Bloomington and Judy(Ray)Johnson of Ft. Mill, SC.

Philip was preceded in death by both his parents and his step mother; Anna Belle Ooley VanHook, one sister; Dorcas VanHook and one granddaughter; Courtney McCammon.

A very special thank you to Rick and Stephanie for all of their kindness and loving support during these past months.

Friends may call on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 2-8 p.m. in Day Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN 47401. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Rev. David Warren and Rev. Larry Snyder. Burial will follow in Unionville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 614, Bloomington, IN 47402.
