Christian "Chris" Henry Stauber was born January 16, 1922 in Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky to John Christian Stauber and Anna Christine Simon Stauber. He was the first-born of six children. Chris' father died when Chris was only thirteen years old. His mother raised her six children alone working as a seamstress. Chris served in the Army during World War II and was at the Battle of the Bulge. He was Catholic, and his heritage was German.

On June 27, 1942 in Newport, Chris married Virginia "Ginny" Jeannette Sherman Stauber, and they became the parents of Kathleen Ann Stauber Estry. Chris died at age 76 on March 6, 1998 in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minnesota (where his daughter and her family live) and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester. His wife survived him.
