Sportsman. After escaping the Yellow Fever Epidemics of 1873 and 1878 in Memphis, Tennessee, he lived as a sportman, a sports promoter, a man of community service, and inventor and founder of Greyhound Racing. His most notable invention was the mechanical lure (rabbit) for greyhound racing. He founded the modern sport as early as 1906. He ran the International Greyhound Racing Association until his death in 1927. To this day he is regarded as "The Father of Modern Greyhound Racing", and the Greyhound Hall of Fame was built around his vision and accomplishments for the sport. Hall of Fame Inductee 1973.
