He was a 19th-century Spanish Liberal-Conservative politician who was a Spanish orator, jurist, and president of the Congress of Deputies during the legislatures of 1863 to 1864, 1865 to 1866, and 1872. Other political duties included the Minister of the Interior in 1854 and 1856 and the Ambassador of Spain to the Holy See from 1859 to 1861. Born the son of a lawyer, he graduated with a law degree from the University of Granada. Among his professional organizations, he was a member of the Spanish Royal Academy and Academy of Language, Morality, and Politics. He was honored with the Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece. After the fall of the monarchy, he continued to serve in a minor role and died in poverty.
