Actor. He will be best remembered for playing Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter saga, and for the role of Uncle Monty in "Withnail and I." He began his career as an actor from an early age playing roles very different from each and during his career that spanned more than four decades, he starred in over one hundred films and television work. Well known for his role as Henry Crabbe in the British TV series of the early 90s, "Pie in the Sky," he also starred in several major productions such as "Gandhi," "The Naked Gun 2 1/2," "Sleepy Hollow," "The History Boys" for which won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor and a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," and "Superman II." In 2012, he played the role of Al Lewis on stage of the West End theatre at London in the successful Neil Simon's comedy "The Sunshine Boys." His last film was "Private Peaceful" (2012). He died at sixty-five because of complications after heart surgery.
