Army Corp Curtin was assigned to the 2-7th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia. Curtin was killed when a taxi carrying a car bomb drove up to an Army checkpoint in central Iraq. Michael graduated from Howell High School in 1998 where he played on the football team and played recreational hockey and baseball. He worked as a tool and die apprentice for three years before enlisting in the Army in May 2001. He graduated from the Army's paratrooper training school and was deployed to Kuwait on January 25. His family remembers him as a young man who loved music, especially the Beatles and who enjoyed playing guitar. In his last letter home, Michael talked about some of the other soldiers that were there with him that didn't receive packages and mail. He asked them to send them mail and packages. Michael cared about the men that were there with him – he was unselfish. Anything you would ask; he was there for you.
