Chincoteague pony man. He married Ida Virginia Whealton in 1906 and with her had ten children. Their claim to fame came when author Marguerite Henry came to his home on Chincoteague Island in order to write about the wild ponies. The story of his grandchildren's purchase of a wild mare and her foal during the previous Pony Penning Day would become the basis for Miss Henry's tale, 'Misty of Chincoteague'. Beebe agreed to sell the young horse, Misty, to Henry for $150, provided her book included his grandchildren, Paul and Maureen. 'Misty of Chincoteague' became, and still stands, as a classic of childrens' literature. Beebe died at 73, two months after his grandson, Paul, was killed in an automobile accident.
