Professional Football Player. For six seasons (1982 to 1987), he played at the guard and tackle positions in the National Football League with the Minnesota Vikings and San Diego Chargers. Born Curtis Lamar Rouse, he attended Lucy Craft Laney High School in Georgia and earned a scholarship to play collegiate football at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. He was a contributor to Tennessee's capturing of a Southern Conference title while individually earning All-Southern Conference status. Selected by the Vikings during the 11th-round of the 1982 NFL Draft, he appeared in 68 regular season game and provided instrumental blocking on the offensive line for quarterbacks Tommy Kramer and Wade Wilson and later Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts while with San Diego. He had the distinction of beginning his professional career during a labor dispute in 1982 for which led to a strike-shortened year and he ended his career following the strike-riddled 1987 NFL season. After retiring as a player, Rouse remained associated with the sport as an assistant coach on both the high school and collegiate levels. He was inducted into the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004 and was named to their All-Century squad in 2005. During the last years of his life, he battled weight issues for which led to declining health.
