Musician. He was the organist for the 1960s Stax/Volt recording group, "The Bar-Kays." Originally know as "The Imperials," the group changed its name to a mutated version of their favorite rum, "Bacardi." The group hit big in the spring of 1967 with the single "Soulfinger" and that same summer Otis Redding chose the young group as his backing band. While on tour with Redding in the winter of 1967, the plane carrying the band crashed into frozen Lake Monona near Madison, Wisconsin. Redding, along with Caldwell and fellow band members Phalon Jones, Jimmy King and Carl Cunningham were killed in the crash.
