Professional basketball player. For six seasons (1971 to 1977), he played at the guard position in the National Basketball Association with the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks. He initiated his association with the hardwood as a star player at Rice High School in New York and continued his athletic excellence at Marquette University. While with the Warriors, he led his teams multiple times in scoring and was a key contributor to their capturing of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) crown over St. John's University in 1970. He distinguished himself by receiving the Most Valuable Player honors for the tournament. In 1971, he achieved All-American status. Selected by the Knicks as the 16th overall pick during the 1971 NBA Draft, he compiled 2,552 points in 416 regular season games. Meminger experienced a world championship as a member of the 1972-1973 NBA title-winning Knicks team. After retiring as a player, he remained in the sport to serve as a head coach in a women's league. His life outside of sports was plagued by substance addiction, which started during his professional career. He was inducted into the Marquette Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988. In 2013, he died suddenly while staying at a Manhattan hotel.
