Civil War Union Army Officer. He was commissioned as a Captain in the 4th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 17, 1861, and was mustered in as commander of Company F. He led his unit through the battles of Gaines Mill, Second Bull Run and South Mountain, then resigned his commission on September 23, 1862.
