U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the Borden Institute, in 1896, from the law department of the University of Indiana, in 1900, was admitted to the bar and opened a legal firm in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was auditor of Scott County, (1903-11), county attorney, (1911-17) and served as field examiner for the Indiana State board of accounts, (1911-20). In 1923, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth, Sixty-ninth, and Seventieth Congresses, serving until 1929. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was elected judge of the sixth judicial circuit of Indiana in 1930 and served until his death at age 64.
