New Mexico Governor. Educated at the University of Missouri, after moving to New Mexico in 1885, he established a successful business in the ranching and banking industries. Entering politics, he served as a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives (1893-96) and was a member of the New Mexico Territorial Senate in 1901. He also was a member of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners,(1901-02). He also served as a member of the Lincoln County Board of Equalization, (1901-11), served as the Mayor of Roswell, (1904-06) and served in the New Mexico State Senate, (1912-17). In 1922, he was elected as a Democratic the 6th New Mexico Governor, serving until 1925. During his term, a World War I veteran’s property tax exemption was sanctioned. After leaving office, he retired from politics and continued to stay active in his various business interests until his death.
