US Congressman, US Senator. Elected to represent Vermont's 2nd District and as At-Large in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1923 to 1933. He also served as a Member of the Vermont State House of Representatives in 1906, Member of the Vermont State Senate in 1908, Delegate to the Republican National Convention from Vermont in 1912, and as a United States Senator from Vermont from 1933 until his death in office in 1940. He also served in the United States Army during World War I. Also a noted lawyer, he was the father of United States Congressman Ernest Willard Gibson Jr.
