U.S. Congressman. Educated at Morganfield Collegiate Institute and he taught school in Union County Kentucky, (1869-75). He then studied medicine and was graduated from the Missouri Medical College, in 1877 and practiced medicine in Union County, (1877-78). Leaving the medical field, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1878 and commenced the practice law in Morganfield, Kentucky. He was Union County school commissioner, (1879-81) and prosecuting attorney of Union County, (1882-91). In 1899, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth and Fifty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1903. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law, plus engaged in banking and agricultural pursuits until his death at age 69.
