Eugene Addison Renner was killed in a kamikaze attack while serving aboard the destroyer USS Cassin Young (DD793) seven miles east of Okinawa. The 3:30 am hit on the forward, starboard side of the ship killed 22 sailors in all. The Cassin Young is now a floating museum ship, part of Boston National Historical Park, and is docked near the USS Constitution at Pier One of the former Charlestown Navy Yard, a national park site. There is a plaque with the names of all those killed at the point of the plane's impact. The ship may be toured with a ranger during normal visitor seasons. For more information you can Google the DD793 via the park or her volunteer's website. Hero Renner was raised in Illinois. His parents Robert W. and Elva Z. moved to California after the War.
