Irene Vera Sebok, better know as "Momo" to her family, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Anaheim Memorial Hospital at the age of 93.
Born the fifth child of Hungarian émigrés, Alexander Balla (1886-1950) and Julia Molnar (1885-1962), in LeRoy, New York, she spent much of her youth in Sabine Co., Texas. Irene came to California in the early 1930s to live with and help her aunt and uncle with their children. In 1935, she met and married Albert Sebok(1903-1968), a boilermaker for Southern Pacific Railroad who was also of Hungarian descent. Irene and Albert had three children together: Alberta, Julia Earl, and Paul.
Following her husband's death in 1968, Irene lived with her daughter, Alberta, and her family, which she continued to do even up to the last month of her life. Leaving California for a while, living in Texas, Florida, and Ohio, she came to live in Fullerton, California in 1987.
In 2004, Irene suffered congestive heart failure, which her doctors treated with a pacemaker. Despite this medical effort, Irene's heart became too weak, and subsequently her lungs weakened. In the last few weeks of her life, she developed both congestive heart failure and pneumonia, which further weakened her. Although she tried to hold on, not wanting to leave us, she passed away and joined those of her family that had gone before her and that she so deeply missed.
Following her passing, Irene was cremated; and her cremains are in the possession of her daughter.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter (Julia Earl Sowers), and eight of her siblings (Alex Jr., Ima, Frank, John, Esther, Arpod, Henry, and Ethel Jewel). She is survived by one sister (Aline Goetz), two children (Alberta Hamilton and Paul Sebok, and his wife Linda), five grandchildren (Carolyn Kernan and her husband Bill, Jeff and Mark Hamilton, Pamela Venglar and her husband Mel, and Debra Holliday and her husband John), two step-grandsons (Frank and John Dyer), four great grandchildren (Laura, Jerry, and William Kernan, and Jason Venglar), three step-great-grandchildren (Ashley, Chris, and Steven Dyer), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was loved in life by them all, and remembered in death the same. Rest in peace Momo!
