Major League Baseball Player, Hockey Player. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Kyle became the first person to play both professional baseball and hockey. At 5'8, and 160lbs, Kyle began his career playing hockey for the Toronto Blueshirts of the NHA (later the NHL). He also played for hockey teams in Kitchener, Ontario, and London, Ontario. On September 7, 1912, he made his major league debut as an outfielder with the Cincinnati Reds, and played with them until October 6, 1912. Kyle batted a total of .333 in 21 at bats. After his hockey and baseball careers were over, Kyle continued on the sidelines as a valued member of the Toronto, Ontario, based Givens School Old Boys' Association, where he served as an executive. He was also a left-handed golf champion during the 1930s. Kyle passed away in Toronto, Ontario, on September 6, 1971, at the age of 81.
