Professional Football Player, Coach, Football Builder. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Stukus was born of Lithuanian heritage. Known as 'Stuke' he played professional football for a number of years including playing in six different positions including as a quarterback and as a member of two winning Grey Cup Championship teams. He played for the Toronto Argonauts from 1935 to 1941, Toronto Oakwood Indians in 1942, Toronto Balmy Beach in 1943, HMCS York Bulldogs in 1944, Toronto Indians from 1945 to 1946, and the Edmonton Eskimos from 1935 to 1951. Stukus was also head coach of the Toronto Oakwood Indians in 1942, head coach and general manager of the Edmonton Eskimos from 1949 to 1951, and head coach and general manager of the of the BC Lions from 1954 to 1955. He also helped to build the CFL franchises in Edmonton and Vancouver. For his contributions to both football and ice hockey, he was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame as a Builder. In 1961, the 'Annis Stukus Trophy' was also established in his honour. Stukus retired to Canmore, Alberta, where he passed away at the age of 91.
