MY BELOVED MOTHER:

LEOLA was born in Brady, Texas, on September 28, 1907, to JULIA (Trott) WALTER and FRED D. WALTER. The WALTER family subsequently moved to Taft, California, where Mr. WALTER was hired by the City of Taft as the local "pound master."

LEOLA was first married to LOREN ROFINOT and had a daughter, BETTY, however, LOREN committed suicide when BETTY was about four years old. LEOLA later met EUGENE WALTER ABLES and they married on April 10, 1936. They had one child, BEVERLY JEAN ABLES, born on April 9, 1937.

LEOLA was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was an employee with Standard Oil Company for many years, working at the main headquarters for Standard Oil (at that time), 11-C Camp, Taft, California. She was the secretary treasurer of the employee's club, and operated the concession stand. Standard Oil provided the employee's club house with pool tables, rocking chairs, TV's, reading material, smoking lounge, and the refreshment concession. My mother had the employee classification of, "Roustabout-A" The time period would have been during the 1940's up thru the 1950's.

LEOLA lived in Taft until her death in the Taft Hospital in January 1979. She had many health problems over the years; emphysema being the primary cause of her death. Mama passed on to be with the Lord surrounded by those she dearly loved and cherished through the years.

She was survived by her loving husband, EUGENE "WALT" ABLES of Taft; daughters, BEVERLY ADKINS SIMMONS, Bakersfield, California; BETTE MURPHREE, Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, KENNETH and CARL ADKINS of Bakersfield, California; SUSAN (Sinclair) MOORE, JEFFREY SINCLAIR and TOM SINCLAIR of Nevada; and several great-grandchildren.

LEOLA was also survived by brothers WALTER D. "Tex" WALTER and FRED D. WALTER, JR.; sisters, JESSIE CALDWELL and LOUISE GRAHAM. She was predeceased by her parents, JULIA and FRED WALTER, of Taft, and a sister, LOUELLA BOLLS, of Santa Maria, California.
