US Congressman. After moving to Catskill in 1802 he opened a store and became involved in several other enterprises, including banking. In 1810 Cooke was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democratic-Republican and served one term, 1811 to 1813. In 1813 he became President of the Catskill National Bank, and his business interests grew to include shipping, farming and railroads. Cooke became a Justice of the Peace in 1818 and also served in the New York Assembly in 1838 and 1839.
