Criminal. Born in Aurora, Missouri to George and Kate Barker. Herman's life of crime began at an early age, when he and brother Lloyd Barker organize a youth gang, which dedicates itself to petty burglaries. Herman is arrested for robbery in Joplin, Missouri and is released to the care of his mother in 1915. After spending most of the Twenties in the company of the Kimes-Terrill gang, robbing banks in Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri, Herman Barker gets flagged down by policemen following the robbery of a Newton, Kansas store. Barker kills a police officer, but is seriously wounded as he attempts to speed past a roadblock. He turns his gun on himself, apparently committing suicide.
