Major League Baseball Player, Coach. For seven seasons (1970 to 1971 and 1973 to 1977), he was a pitcher with the Washington Senators, Texas Rangers, Cleveland Indians and Montreal Expos. Born Jackie Gene Brown, he attended Moss High School in Oklahoma, prior to being signed as an amateur free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1962. He ended up with Washington and made his Major League debut with the Senators on July 2, 1970. Following the franchise's relocation to Texas, Brown earned a spot within the starting rotation in 1974 and produced a career-high 13 wins, with 134 strike outs, in 216 innings-pitched. He was dealt to Cleveland in a multiple player trade during the 1975 season, in exchange for Gaylord Perry. In 214 career regular season games, he compiled a 47 win, 53 loss record, with a lifetime 4.18 ERA, in 892 innings-pitched. After retiring, he remained in the sport and served stints as a Major League pitching coach with the Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Devil Rays, in addition to serving as a coach in the Minor Leagues with the Buffalo Bisons. His older brother Paul Brown was a Major League pitcher with the Philadelphia Phillies.
