US Congressman. He was a lawyer in practice when elected to the Maryland State Senate and served 1850 to 1856. In 1857, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses serving until 1861. After his term, he resumed the practice of law and was a delegate to the Loyalist Convention in Philadelphia in 1866.
