Actress. Best known for her role as Mary Malone in the 1928 film, "So This Is Love?", directed by Frank Capra. A native of Blue Lake, California, she was born Gladys Louise Laverty, but used the alias of Jean Barry or Jean Bary, when appearing in motion pictures. Among Laverty's other films are, "Bachelor's Paradise" (1928), "The Good-bye Kiss' (1928), "The Chicken" (1928), "A Dumb Waiter" (1928), "Captain Lash" (1929), "Fugitives" (1929), "Campus Knights" (1929), "Prisoners" (1929), "The Great Divide" (1929), "The Cock-Eyed World" (1929), "Bright Lights" (1930), "Scarlet Pages" (1930), "Mothers Cry" (1930), "June Moon" (1931), "The Famous Ferguson Case" (1932), "Strictly Personal" (1933), "Diamond Jim" (1935), "Florida Special" (1936), and "After The Thin Man" (1936). Laverty died at age 69, from tonsil cancer.
