Evans earned four other Oscar nominations for "The Cat and the Canary" (1945), "Tammy" (1957), "Almost in Your Arms" (1958) and "Dear Heart" (1964). His Christmas classic, "Silver Bells," recorded by hundreds of artists has sold more than 500 million records to date and continues to sell 3 million annually. He also co-composed the themes for the classic television shows "Bonanza" and "Mr. Ed." He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Song Writers Hall of Fame in 1977. He died of a heart attack.
