Actress, Screenwriter, Playwright. Born the daughter of Lulu Belle Couchman and newspaperman, Titus Fulton in El Dorado, Kansas. She made her stage debut with an amateur production in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She then made a tour of Vaudeville and several seasons on Broadway. In 1917, she wrote and starred in 'The Brat' on Broadway, which ran for 136 performances. A move to Hollywood saw her work on film, writing the intertitles for silent pictures such as 'Lady Windermere's Fan' (1925) and 'Don Juan' (1926). She wrote the screenplay for 'Nix on Dames' (1929) and adapted 'Other Men's Women' (1931) for the screen , but her biggest hit was with 'The Maltese Falcon' (1931). Her last production was the screenplay for 'Song and Dance Man' (1936). In her career, she earned writing credit on a total of 21 pictures, and a screen credit for five films. She retired in 1940, and spent the rest of her life battling poor health.
