APRILE, Samuel Louis, who lived in San Leandro for 41 years, died in Manteca on Sunday, June 17, 2007, at age 48. Mr. Aprile was a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Carolina Panthers and enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Grace Aprile; children, Marty Duran, Melinda Duran, Samuel Aprile, Jr. and Joseph Aprile; grandchildren, Amaiyah Onate, Dominic Duran, Casey Campbell and Justin Campbell; his siblings, Vince Aprile and wife Marlene of Vacaville, Nancy Grenfell and husband Terry of Brisbane, and Australia and Ann Aprile of Rio Vista; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held in Manteca on June 22.

MANTECA — A 48-year-old Manteca man was crushed to death when the truck he was working underneath slipped from its supporting jacks Sunday, June 17.
At 6:52 p.m., Manteca police received a call that Samuel Louis Aprile was trapped underneath the front engine of a truck in his driveway on the 2000 block of Buena Vista Drive.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to discover Aprile unconscious and not breathing. Medical crews later determined that he had died from the truck crushing him.
He died of asphyxiation and traumatic chest compression, according to early reports from the San Joaquin County Coroner's Office.
According to witnesses quoted in a Manteca police report, Aprile had gone out to work on the truck two hours earlier. When a family member went to check on him, he was pinned underneath the truck.
A preliminary investigation by police detectives and the coroner's office indicated that Aprile had not set the jacks properly and the truck had rolled, pinning Aprile underneath.
There was no indication of foul play, the report said.
Aprile, who worked as a forklift operator at the now-shuttered H.J. Heinz Co. distribution center in Tracy, leaves behind a wife and four children.
He was an avid fisherman and a diehard Dodgers fan, said his wife, Grace Aprile.
His funeral took place on April 22 at Park View Cemetery and Funeral Home in French Camp.
He was a 1977 graduate of San Leandro High School in San Leandro, California, and lived in San Leandro for 41 of his 48 years before moving to Manteca.
