Isabel "Belle" Armstrong Barklie was a daughter of Brig. Gen. Frank C. Armstrong and his first marriage to Maria Polk Walker. Her first marriage was to James Dundas Lippincott 21 Nov 1903 in Philadelphia, Pa. JDL died 6 Mar 1905. He was a very wealthy man and left Isabel a wealthy widow.
Isabel next married Archibald Barklie of New Jersey in March, 1910. The New York Times carried a wedding announcement on 20 Mar 1910 and followed that on 21 Mar 1910 with the following: "...married at her home, 204 Rittenhouse Square West. After the wedding ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Barklie went to New York where they will remain until Tuesday morning when they will sail for Italy to spend Easter in Rome."
In the 1920 U. S. Census they were enumerated twice, once in California and also in Pennsylvania. Eventually they left California to reside in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. She also maintained a summer residence at Bar Harbor, Maine, where her father died in 1909.
In the 1914 Preakness horse race in Baltimore, Md., she is shown as the owner of the winning horse, "Holiday".
Isabel died in Wayne, Delaware County, Pa and was buried in the plot of her father, Gen. Frank C. Armstrong, in Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington, D. C. Her husband, Archie Barklie, died a few weeks later and is also buried in the Armstrong plot at Rock Creek Cemetery.
