US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1927 and practiced law in Hayti, South Dakota. From 1929 to 1932 and 1937 to 1940, he was State's Attorney for Hamlin County and President of the State Board of Agriculture in 1939 and 1940. He was a member of the State Senate, 1941 to 1944 and chairman of the South Dakota Republican Committee in 1947 and 1948. In 1949, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-first Congress and to the three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1957. A unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law in Maryland until his death.
