Mary Bynum was born in Georgia to Luke Bynum and Martha "Patsy" Kell Bynum on April 30, 1833.

Mary Bynum married William Asberry Fowler and they had eleven children which they raised in Rabun County, GA.

During the Civil War, Mary Bynum Fowler hid her children in a cave to keep them from being discovered by Union forces. She had to provide for the family while her husband, William Asberry Fowler, was serving in the Confederate Army.

Mary Bynum Fowler died June 16, 1923. She was 90 years old. She was living in Liberty, SC but they returned her body home to Rabun County, Ga to be buried beside her husband, William Asberry Fowler, in Holden Cemetery.

Mary Bynum Fowler's brothers, Andrew Jackson Bynum and James C Bynum, are also buried in Holden Cemetery. Both of these men were Confederate Soldiers. Links Below:
