☆☆☆☆~ World War II Veteran ~☆☆☆☆

Glen was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a private in the U.S. Army, 3rd Battalion, Headquarters Company, 109th Infantry. While in the service he earned the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star.

Glen was the eldest of four children, and was born at home at 80 McLean Street. His father died when he was young – the funeral was on Glen's 10th birthday – so he, his mother, and his two younger sisters moved in with his maternal grandparents. In 1937, he graduated from Elmer L. Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre. He married Ruth Anna Wint in January 1938, and they had three daughters and one son. After their divorce, he married Mary Vera Callahan Dustin, and they had one daughter, Karen. They also divorced.

While working at Percy Brown's Cafeteria in Wilkes-Barre, he met ♥ Vaselo Panagakos ♥, the love of his life. They eloped on June 26, 1954. Rev. Warren A. Loesch performed the wedding at the parsonage of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church in Wilkes-Barre, and his wife, Marion Loesch, was the witness. The newlyweds moved to Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. They later lived in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, NY; Fogelsville, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania; Wescosville, Lehigh County, PA; and finally Ancient Oaks, Lehigh County, PA. Their marriage lasted for 33 years, and the couple raised two daughters and two sons.

Dad was a sausage maker, and worked for several different companies. In the 1940s, he worked for Kingston Provision. He left Percy Brown's Cafeteria in 1954 to work for Elmira Provision. He was self-employed between 1959-1961, when he and Mom owned and operated The Friendly Pork Store at 630 North Second Street in Fullerton, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. He had to give up that store when the building he rented was sold. After closing his store, he worked for Swift & Company, and later for Leidy's Quality Pork Products in Souderton, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, until he retired in 1983. He also worked at Butz's Butcher Shop in East Texas, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.

Dad was devoted to God and to his family. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Wescosvillle, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, where he drove the Sunday School bus, sang in the church choir, participated in the church's men's work group, and served on the Boy Scout Council. When his dear Uncle Charlie died, he convinced his beloved Aunt Ada to move in with our family. He had many grandchildren and great grandchildren, so his favorite weekend activity was visiting family. His mother's family held a large reunion every summer, and he never missed one of those family reunions.

Though Dad didn't get much time off work, he made the most of his vacations. He enjoyed history, so we usually spent family vacations visiting historical sights. He also enjoyed photography, so we would later watch slide presentations of our trips. He promised Mom that he would take her to Greece one day, and they finally made that trip in May 1987 - nine months before he died.
