US Congressman. He was the city clerk of Carterville, Illinois, 1915 to 1918 and postmaster at Carterville, 1923 to 1933. In 1941, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-seventh Congress and to the six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1955. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was a liaison assistant, at the Postal Department, Washington, D.C., 1955 to 1957, superintendent of Industrial Planning and Labor Conciliator for State of Illinois, 1958 to 1960.
