Photographer, Musician, Entrepreneur. Born Linda Louise Eastman in Scarsdale, New York, the daughter of Louise Lindner and attorney Lee Eastman. She attended the University of Arizona where she was an Art History major, and was introduced to photography. She met Joseph See, a postgraduate student in geology and cultural anthropology, while at school. They married after a short courtship, and had one daughter, Heather. She divorced See when he left his family for over a year while on an expedition in Africa. She initially gained employment as an editorial receptionist at 'Town and Country' magazine, she attended a Rolling Stones promotional party and photographed the event. The magazine was impressed enough to published her work in an editorial feature. While the house photographer at the Fillmore East in New York City, she photographed such icons as The Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, B.B. King, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, The Beach Boys, The Who, The Kinks, and Jimi Hendrix. She later worked for 'Rolling Stone' magazine, her photo of Eric Clapton, appearing on the 11 May 1968 issue, made her the first woman to have her work featured on the magazine's cover. She met Paul McCartney at a club in 1967 while on assignment in London, then at the launch of 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.' He would later invite her back to London during the recording of the 'The Beatles' white album. They married in March of 1969 amidst weeping fans attempting to block entry to the registry office. McCartney adopted her daughter, and they would have three more children together. After the breakup of the Beatles in 1970, McCartney insisted she learn to play keyboards so that he could include her in the line-up for his new band, Wings. Wings released a dozen albums and earned a gold record for 'Band on the Run,' which hit number one on the charts. She won Oscar and Grammy nominations for co-writing, with McCartney, 'Live and Let Die' in 1973. She converted her family to vegetarianism in 1975, and wrote several vegetarian cookbooks including 'Linda's Kitchen' and 'Linda McCartney's Home Cooking'. She founded her own successful line of vegetarian food in 1991, establishing the British brand, 'Linda McCartney Foods.' Half a dozen collections of her photographs have been published, including 'Linda's Pictures' in 1977 and 'Linda McCartney's Sixties: Portrait of an Era' in 1992. In December 1995, she was diagnosed with breast cancer to which she succumbed at the McCartney Family Ranch in Tucson, Arizona after a three year fight; her husband and four children were at her bedside. The 200th episode of the animated television series 'The Simpsons' entitled 'Trash of the Titans' was dedicated to her memory. A retrospective of her photography, 'Light from Within: Photojournals' was released posthumously.
